Mainstream: reducing near misses while supporting No Avoidable Harm
Mainstream partnered with SonaSafe to support its No Avoidable Harm goal across freight hub environments. By configuring personal detector units, dynamic exclusion zones, real-time alerts and reporting around the way the site actually operates, Mainstream was able to reduce near misses, improve safety engagement and support long-term behaviour change.
The operating environment
Mainstream freight hub environments involve mobile plant, forklifts, workers and operational teams moving through active, changing spaces. These are environments where exclusion zones, pedestrian movement and mobile plant interaction need to be understood in real time – not only after an incident or near miss has occurred.
The safety challenge
Mainstream wanted to reduce near-miss risk and support its No Avoidable Harm goal. The key challenge was ensuring alerts reflected the real operational risk on the ground, so that workers and operators received useful warnings without creating unnecessary alert fatigue.
The SonaSafe solution
SonaSafe worked with Mainstream to configure system alerts for their freight hub environment. Staff wore personal detector units, while mobile plant created dynamic exclusion zones as it moved through the site. When someone entered a configured risk zone, real-time warnings were triggered to operators, machinery and staff so they could take action. Cloud-based event data helped support Health & Safety conversations with real-world evidence, rather than relying on anecdote or memory.
The result
Mainstream reported an 80% reduction in near-miss incidents and a 65% reduction in exclusion-zone breaches. The result was more than a reduction in alerts. The customer also reported stronger workforce engagement, better Health & Safety conversations and progress toward a safer working environment.
